How to install Windows 10 Mobile OS on your Lumia Phone

The latest preview build for Windows 10 Mobile released for Windows Phone Insiders is significantly more stable than previous releases. It is stable enough that you can actually use it as your daily device.
Apart from the occasional freeze (which happens on average twice a day), it is snappy, and polished to the extent you can use it everyday. It is however in no way on par with the current Windows Phone 8.1 OS in terms of performance or speed but it is good enough.

I have been using it continuously for more than 3 weeks now (dating back to the build 10149 release) and I can attest to the fact that it's good enough. And the good news is that with upcoming updates and new build releases it can only get better from here

Other Windows Phone insiders who are using this latest build can also confirm of its performance boost and word has spread and as a result there are now more Windows insiders trying it out.
In the recent weeks, I have gotten asked by enthusiastic windows phone users about how to get the preview build Windows 10 Mobile on their devices.

It is pretty easy. But first of all you want to make sure your device is on the list of compatible devices that can get the Windows 10 Mobile OS build...

  • HTC One (M8) for Windows
  • Lumia 430
  • Lumia 435
  • Lumia 520
  • Lumia 521
  • Lumia 525
  • Lumia 526
  • Lumia 530
  • Lumia 532
  • Lumia 535
  • Lumia 540
  • Lumia 620
  • Lumia 625
  • Lumia 630
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 636
  • Lumia 638
  • Lumia 640
  • Lumia 640 XL
  • Lumia 720
  • Lumia 730
  • Lumia 735
  • Lumia 810
  • Lumia 820
  • Lumia 822
  • Lumia 830
  • Lumia 920
  • Lumia 925
  • Lumia 928
  • Lumia 930
  • Lumia 1020
  • Lumia 1320
  • Lumia 1520
  • Lumia Icon

If your Lumia is on that list (It likely is). Then the next step would be to register as an insider by going to insider.windows.com and then installing the Windows Insider app on your Lumia.
Open the app, tap the "get preview build" and then choose the "Insider Fast" option, this will prompt your phone to reboot.
After the reboot, go to settings and search for updates.
You should get the Windows 10 Mobile update. It will download and install on your Lumia.
And that's it. You now have Windows 10 on your Lumia phone.
