Microsoft's prized possession: Cortana is about to take up residence on Android and iPhones.
Microsoft announced today that a Cortana companion app will be available on Android phones by the end of June while the iPhone version will be released later this year.
Of course, Windows Phone users took up their pitchforks when they heard the news.
Cortana on Android? That's absurd! But it looks like Microsoft is really serious about being a open, multi-platform services company.
Almost all Microsoft apps or services is available on their rival Android/iOS. And while many believe Microsoft is shooting itself in the foot with this latest move, I am sure they have very good reason to (doesn't mean I like it or agree with it though).
But let's be honest, how many people would actually leave the Windows Phone platform because Cortana was now on Android?
Besides Cortana on Android or iOS wouldn't be up to par with the Windows Phone version, remember this is a companion app. So don't expect a voice passive activation feature like "Hey Cortana" on iPhones.
I don't know what Microsoft is doing, but I guess we will have a full view within a year from now.
