Nokia today announced that they have agreed to acquire Alcatel-Lucent for $16.6Million.
Alcatel-Lucent is very similar to Nokia, they make smartphones but their main source of revenue is in Networking technologies.
The only difference between the two companies is that Alcaltel-Lucent still makes smartphones, whereas Nokia doesn't anymore, as you know they sold their Smartphone making division to Microsoft.
It would be interesting to see if Nokia using Alcatel-Lucent's Mobile division to release Nokia phones in 2016, that would be an interesting plot twist. Don't rule Nokia out of the Smartphone business just yet.
But you might rule them out of the location based services, as you know, rumors have been going around that Nokia is looking to sell its HERE Maps division and with this acquisition, it looks like that could very well be true as Nokia looks set to concentrate on Networking technologies.
