After being pulled from the Windows Phone store 12 days ago, due to some stability issues with the app, Microsoft partnered with Whatsapp to fix the issue.
In that period, the Lumia 630 got released and new users were without the most popular IM app to download.
But today is a good day as not only has the app returned to the store, it's been updated with new features like the anticipated custom backgrounds, broadcast lists, privacy settings and more. The UI has also been tweaked a bit, the settings page for instance is now different.
New in v2.11.490: * Chat backgrounds * Broadcast lists * Privacy settings (settings > account > privacy) * Media auto-download settings (settings > chat settings > media autodownload) * Custom notification tones (Windows Phone 8 Update 3 required) * Various enhancements and bug fixes
There is a warning for WP8.1 users stating that some features may not work properly. So it looks like though the whatsapp app has been updated with new features it hasn't yet been fully optimized for WP8.1
If only Microsoft could also partner with Viber to make it a better app. Oh and don't forget Skype too!
Seems like Whatsapp is getting all the love at the moment. Would love this see these efforts put into other IM services that are lagging behind.
