Nokia announces Nokia X, X+ and XL Android-running devices

Nokia today announced a new range of devices; The Nokia X range of devices and guess what? They run on Android... well, sorta.
It's what die-hard Nokia fans have clamored for since the dawn of Android more than 4yrs ago.
The Nokia X, X+ and XL are a new range of Nokia devices that will be running on a forked version of Android, what does that mean? It's Android but without Google's cloud services installed, so no Google Play store, Google hangouts and they rest of them embedded into the OS. It's just Android, the really cool thing is you have the full range of Android apps, as developers can easily port their apps to the platform (within a couple of hours actually).

The UI is heavily customized and looks nothing like your typical Android device. It looks like a mix of Windows Phone tiles and the Asha series. give Nokia kudos there. With a familiar UI, Nokia Asha users who are looking to upgrade to this will have no trouble doing so,

The Nokia X and X+ include...

- 4inch Display
- 512MB RAM (768MB on the X+)
- up to 32GB microSD
- 3MP fixed focus camera (no front facing camera)
- 1GHz Dual Core SnapDragon

The Nokia XL:
- 5inch Display
- 768MB RAM
- Up to 32GB microSD
- 5MP camera with auto-focus and flash
- 1GHz Dual Core SnapDragon

The Nokia X will become available immediately in select emerging markets while the Nokia X+ and XL will be available starting Q2 2014.

The Nokia X will cost €89
The Nokia X+ will cost €99 and
The Nokia XL will cost €109

These are low budget android powered phones and it will be interesting to see how they go against the Lumia 520, the Asha series and Moto G, which are all low budget smartphones.

So is this the Android device many Nokia fans have been waiting for? Nope, far from it, if anything, these X devices satisfies our curiosity on what Android would look like running on Nokia hardware and nothing more.

Symbian/Android users will be the first to get these Nokia X devices, I do not see Lumia users jumping on board the X family.

Reports hitting the blogosphere, indicate that the Nokia X has already amassed 1 million pre-orders in China. I bet Microsoft peeps are biting their toenails by now.
Here is an unboxing/review video of the NokiaX,
