How to fix Live Tile not updating when using Cellular Data.


Recently I noticed my Live Tiles and Push Notifications stop working anytime I am using my Cellular Data. I mean they work perfect when I am on WiFi but the minute I switch to Cellular Data, all notifications stopped. I mean Email, Apps and Games notifications all cease!

I recently found out the problem and would like to share this with anyone who was experiencing this issue and is at loss with what to do.

All you have to do is go to Settings > Cellular >  Scroll Down to the bottom and there is a check box for "Always restrict background data"



Checking the box saves you data by halting all background tasks that require data usage, with Live Tiles for Apps+Games and Emails the typical culprits, hence the stop working when this option is checked.

While leaving the check box blank, will allow your live tiles and all notifications to work just fine, it will use your data. Remember the Live Tiles update every 30mins, so imagine your phone going online every 30mins to try to update every live tile on your start screen.

I have tested both scenarios Check box ON/OFF and there is indeed significant difference in data usage.

It is also important to note that this also affects battery life, though not significantly
